"Gheymeh"

You can remove meat from this recipe and I promise you that it will remain delicious so It can be a vegetarian dish aswell.

Ingredients

1 medium onion, diced
150gr red meat (any kind), cut into 1-inch cubes
1 cup Split peas
Vegetable oil
1 large potato
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2 black limes, make 2 or 3 holes on the surface of black limes or use black lime powder
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon Saffron (powder)

Preparation

Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onion to pan; cook for a few minutes, till the color of the onions is changed a bit now add the Split peas don’t forget stirring frequently because the split peas are very sensible and if we over heat them in oil they may become hard in the mouth. Add the cubes of meat then after a few seconds add turmeric and salt, keep stirring for one or 2 minutes, add tomato paste and saffron, let it be on cooked for almost 5 minutes or so. Till the color of tomato paste is changed and looses it’s water a bit. Stir in 2 cups of water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, add the 2 black limes; simmer for 1hr. till make sure that meat and split peas are properly cooked.
Remove from heat; add the cinnamon for giving it a beautiful smelling.
Now use the large potato and make some fried potato and put them on the top; watch the photo below:


This recipe will be completed only with some rice beside it so do not forget preparing some rice beside it.
  1. In the middle of cooking if you think you are running out of water but the split peas or meat are not cooked yet add some more water.
  2. Split peas are perfectly cooked when you can crush them with a fork.
  3. When the food is ready you can crush the black limes to bring out their sour taste and then remove them or let them stay on the top for dressing the meal like photo.
  4. Don’t forget to wash the split peas before using them.
